Spisske muzeum vzniklo v roku 1884 z iniciativy Spisskeho dejinneho spolku, ktory sa zaoberal aj akviziciou historickych predmetov. Od svojho vzniku sa zameriava na tri zakladne oblasti - historiu, umelecku historiu a etnografiu spisskeho regionu a mesta Levoce. Zo zaciatku sidlilo v gotickom dome, tzv Stallungu na Masiarskej ulici, ale v roku 1955 ziskalo budovu levocskej radnice, kde bola instalovana historicka expozicia. V rokoch 1968-1990 spravovalo narodnu kulturnu pamiatku Kostol sv. Jakuba v Levoci, v januari 1989 prevzalo spravu Spisskeho hradu.
1.4.2002 bolo Spisske muzeum zlucene so Slovenskym narodnym muzeom (SNM).

The Spis Museum was founded in 1884 on the initiative of the Spis History Association which was also concerned with acquiring historical objects. Since its foundation the Museum pursues three basic areas-history, art history and ethnography of the Spis region in general, and of the town Levoca in particular. Initially, it had its headquarters in a Gothic house - the socalled Stallung in Masiarska Str.; in 1955 it acquired the building of the Levoca Town Hall in which it then installed a historical exhibition. During 1968-1990 it processed the national cultural monument - St. James's church at Levoca, and in January 1989 took over the management of the Spis castle.
1.4.2002 was Spis Museum jointly with Slovak national museum (SNM).

Expozicia Vytvarna kultura na Spisi spristupnuje umeleckohistoricke zbierky v chronologickom slede od gotickeho umenia po diela 19.-teho storocia a jej sucastou su ukazky umeleckoremeselnych prac z kovu a diela ludoveho umenia. Expozicia je umiestnena v renesancnom dome na Nam. Majstra Pavla c.40.

The Fine Art Exhibition at Spis has on view arthistory collections arranged in a chronological order from Gothic art up to works from the 19th century; it also includes craft works of metal and works of folk art. The exhibition is located in a Renaissance burgher house at 40, Master Pavol's Sq.

Historicka expozicia na Radnici prezentuje historiu mesta, pricom koresponduje s vyznamom budovy ako sidla mestskej samospravy. Budova radnice je jednou z dominant levocskeho namesti, ktora bol postavena koncom 16.-teho storocia.

Historical Exhibition in the Town Hall presented the town's history and corresponds to the significance of the building as the seat of the local magistracy. The building of the Town Hall was built towards the end of the 16th century and constitutes one of the dominants of the Levoca.

Expozicia Majster Pavol z Levoce prostrednictvom fotografii, faksimilnych kopii a odliatkov pripomina takmer vsetky vyznamne diela znameho stredovekeho rezbara, tvorcu najvyssieho gotickeho oltara na svete, ktory zdobi kostol sv. Jakuba v Levoci. Expozicia je umiestnena v mestianskom dome na Nam. Majstra Pavla c.20.

The Master Pavol Exhibition, through photographs, facsimile copies and casts, recalls all the significant works from the workshop of the famous mediaeval wood-carver, the author of the highest Gothic altar in the world which adorns St. James's church at Levoca. The exhibition is located in a burgher house at 20, Master Pavol's Sq.
