Sport ako telesna aktivita sutaziveho charakteru vznikol v 19.storoci. Stal sa novym nositelom tradicnych i vznikajucich hodnot, potrieb, symbolov, vyznamov , cielov a znakov v spolocnosti. Je povazovany za najvyznamnejsie socialne hnutie sucasneho sveta. Od storocia pary k storociu umelej inteligencie pomaha umiestnit telo do sluzieb mysle a naopak.
Sportove muzeum je zivym organizmom, nielen archaickou instituciou, snazi sa mat svoju originalitu. Vytvorenie sportoveho muzea sa stalo kulturnou potrebou konca 20.storocia.
Muzeum telesnej kultury v SR bolo zriadene dnom 24.10.1985 zriadovacou listinou Predsednictva ustredneho vyboru Ceskoslovenskeho zvazu telesnej vychovy ako ucelove zariadenie Slovenskeho ustredneho vyboru CSZTV bez pravnej subjektivity.Mimoriadnym zjazdom CSZTV o pravnom nastupnictve sa stalo sucastou Slovenskeho zdruzenia telesnej kultury ako jeho organizacna jednotka s pravom konat vo vlastnom mene.

Muzeum telesnej kultury v SR je celostatnym specializovanym muzeom .Plni funkciu metodickeho a koordinacneho centra v oblasti svojej specializacie. Zbierkovy fond muzea obsahuje viac ako 11 000 trojrozmernych predmetov. Ide napriklad o sportove trofeje (medaily, plakety, pohare, plastiky) a sportovu vyzbroj, vystroj, nacinie a naradie. Osobitnu cast zbierok tvori rozsiahla fotodokumentacia. Sucastou MTK je kniznica zamerana na sustredovanie a spristupnovanie historicko-faktografickej literatury z oblasti telesnej kultury. Predmetom vyskumu a praktickej cinnosti je historia olympijskeho hnutia na Slovensku a vo svete, ucinkovanie Slovenska na medzinarodnej sportovej scene a domace dianie v historickom vyvoji i sucasnosti. MTK poskytuje konzultacne sluzby a studijne moznosti verejnosti, najma studentom, sportovcom, novinarom, odbornym pracovnikom telovychovy, sportovych klubov a spolocenskych organizacii.

The sport as physical activity of competitive character originates in the nineteenth century.
It has become a new bearer of traditional and emerging values, needs, symbols, meanings, objectives, and features in the society. It is regarded as the most important social movement of the contemporary world. From the steam age to the artificial intelligence age, it helps to place the body in service of the mind and vice versa.

The Sport Museum is a living organism, not only an archaic institution,it strives at its own originality.The creation of the Sport Museum has develop to a cultural need of the end of the twentieth century.The Physical Culture Museum in the SR was established on 24 October 1985 by the deed of establishment of the Presidency of the Central Committee of the Czechoslovak Physical Culture Union as specialised establishment of the Slovak Central Committee of CSPCU without legal personality.
By the extraordinary congress of CSPCU on legal succession it has become a part of the Slovak Physical Culture Association as its organisational unit authorised to act in its own name.The Physical Culture Museum in the SR is a national specialised museum. It executes the function of a methodological and coordination centre in the area of its specialisation. Its fund comprises over 11,000 three-dimensional objects, e.g. sports trophies (medals, plaques, cups, statues) and sports gear, equipment, requisites, apparatuses. A special section is made up of photodocumentation. The museum also has a library oriented to acquiring historico-factographic literature from the domain of physical culture. The research and practical work have for aim to process the area of the Olympic movement in Slovakia and in the world, Slovakia´s participation in the international sports arena and home events within a historical development and also today.The museum provides consultation services and opportunities for study to the public at large, but especially to students, sportsmen, journalists, specialists in physical education, sports clubs and public organizations.

Muzeum nema spristupnenu stalu expoziciu. Vysledky svojej akvizicnej cinnosti prezentuje
formou prilezitostnych vystav.

The Museum has not a permanent exposition accessible to the public. It presents results of its acquisition activity in the form of temporary expositions.
