History-Description:
The
Bratislava Municipal Museum was founded by the Bratislava Resident's Association in 1868 and opened
its first exhibition in 1872. Of the buildings in which the museum is located, the most valuable as
regards architecture and art-history is the Old Town Hall which resulted from the
connection of two
burgher houses with Mayor Jakub's (those of Pawer and Unger).
The museum's fund comprises collections: historical, numismatic,
pharmaceutical, decorative arts, archaeology, ethnography, sculpture and ironmongery, science and
technology. Through archaeological surveys of Devin and Rusovce, the Museum came to rank among
foremost such workplaces in Slovakia.
