Mesto Bytca lezi na strednom Povazi v udoli Vahu, uprostred Bytcianskej doliny. Pred rokom 1223
patrila prva polovica majetku Bytce Nitrianskemu biskupstvu. Prva pisomna zmienka o Bytci (terra
Bycha) je z roku 1234. Rode, Boleslav, Kracun a Mykud predali druhu polovicu svojho majetku Bytca
nitrianskemu biskupovi Jakubovi za 24 hrivien striebra.
V roku 1378 dostala Bytca vysady zemepanskeho mestecka. Najvacsi rozkvet zaznamenalo mesto, ked
patrilo rodine Thurzovcov, na konci 16. a zaciatkom 17. storocia. Thurzovci boli jednym z
najmocnejsich feudalnych rodov v Uhorsku a Juraj Thurzo, uhorsky palatin, mal svoje sidlo v Bytci.
Thurzovci postavili zamok, ktory patri medzi klenoty renesancneho stavitelstva na Slovensku.
Bytca is situated in the middle of Povazie in the Vah valley, in which is the center of Bytca´s
lowland.
The first written mention of Bytca comes from rhe beginning of the 13th century. In the year 1378
Bytca got privileges of a bigger city. The end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century Bytca
belonged to family Thurzos and this meant the main growth. Thurzos were one of the most powerful
feudal clans in Hungary. Georg Thurzo, the Hungarian palatin had his own residence in Bytca. In the
age of Thurzos was built a castl, which belonges to jewels of renesance architecture in Slovakia.
